On 24th April another successful lunchtime concert was held for the benefit of St Andrew’s Changing Spaces project. Some 50+ music lovers made up the audience to hear an organ and piano recital performed by Tony Mercer after partaking in light refreshments. Tony played a number of pieces on the organ and also two pieces by Scott Joplin on the piano.
Since the organ is not visible from the seating, a further experiment was conducted with the help of Tony Boshier who deals with the video relay for the Axminster organ concerts. We were very grateful that he brought his equipment to provide a live feed of Tony Mercer at the organ console. This was relayed to a large screen at the front of the church. Many members of the audience expressed their pleasure at being able to see Tony at work on the organ console at the same time as they appreciated his playing.
This new innovation of Lunchtime Concerts at St Andrew’s in Charmouth is off to a flying start and hope that it will long continue.
