The village is located within the beautiful Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Inland from Charmouth, the Marshwood Vale stretches across to the Blackdown Hills – consisting of rolling countryside topped by attractive coppices and displaying a patchwork of hedged fields. The rich pasture land supports many small farms, mainly dairy and sheep, linking into ancient hamlets. The River Char meanders through the landscape to reach the sea at Charmouth.
